Baxter International Inc. is a global healthcare company that, through its subsidiaries, assists healthcare professionals and their patients with treatment of complex medical conditions, including haemophilia, immune disorders, kidney disease, cancer, trauma and other conditions.  Baxter applies its expertise in medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.  Baxter’s headquarters are located closed to Chicago, US.

Baxter employs +/- 2.000 people in Belgium and has a Research & Development Centre in Nivelles and a very large manufacturing plant as well as a European distribution centre in Lessines. The Belux headquarters are located in Brussels. It has to be noted that Baxter’s first overseas operations took place in Belgium in 1954.

All hospitals in Belgium and therefore a large part of the Belgian patients are using or being cured thanks to Baxter’s products.

It is only in Belgium that people are calling an intravenous solution a “Baxter”. The main brand became the generic term for the product.

Baxter’s main business in Belgium is medication deliveries (e.g. the “baxters”, administration sets for injectable drugs, nutrition solutions, infusers, anaesthetic agents etc…). Furthermore, Baxter is market leader on the Belgian market with some important therapies to treat patients with critical conditions such as haemophilia A and kidney disorder treated with Peritoneal Dialysis.

Baxter is a respected partner in healthcare in Belgium with a strong presence in hospitals and home care. In its quest to develop new technologies and therapies, the company maintains close ties and cooperates with all players in Belgian healthcare.

Baxter has been classified as the 7th most attractive company to work for in Belgium in the 2006 Randstad survey (www.randstad.be). This is even an improvement compared to the 2005 edition.
